Demolition is planned to start the week of August 31, 2015 on the former Byers Automotive Buildings located at 6801 and 6851 Village Parkway.

The City acquired the sites in 2014 in anticipation of the construction of John Shield Parkway Phase 2.

The City consolidated several improvements into one strategically planned and coordinated project, which will advance multiple improvements in an efficient and cost effective manner.

The improvements include:

  • Demolition of the two buildings and removal of their foundations
  • Site preparation for the construction of John Shields Parkway Phase 2
  • Preparation of the site for the interim COTA Park & Ride location

The above-mentioned improvements are expected to be complete by November 6, 2015. City Council accepted the low bid of $484,000 on August 24, 2015.

The City agreed to provide an interim COTA Park & Ride location so that two new roads, Bridge Park Avenue and Mooney Street, could be constructed. The construction of John Shields Parkway Phase 2, Bridge Park Avenue and Mooney Street will further the City’s efforts to establish a grid street network, which is a basic tenant of the Bridge Street District development.
